Encourage students to know and emulate LA High’s diverse and distinguished heritage by showcasing some of LA High’s great students who came before and to encourage and reward current students to honor that heritage with research and creativity.
“ Maestro Leonard Slatkin, an internationally acclaimed conductor and musician and winner of several Grammys, attended LAHigh in the early 60s. His experience captures the pluralism and collegiality that runs in the veins of LAHigh. “Perhaps the finest three years of my life were spent attending Los Angeles High School. The schools student’s represented various racial, socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds. We were a lesson in how young people could get along. During my entire time at the home of the Romans very little attention was drawn to the difference in cultures. We studied, played, and learned together. Our social and cultural disparities made little difference to us; we could both celebrate and make fun of those qualities that made us individuals. Those three years at LAHigh were among the happiest of my life.”
